 Green tea is one of the healthiest beverage in the world. Consuming green tea gives us many benefits. First, green tea improves brain function and makes you smarter. Green tea contains caffeine, which is known as stimulant, but not as much as in coffee. Caffeine leads to improvements in various aspects of brain function, including improved mood, recetion time, and memory. Second, green tea contains bio-active compounds that improve health. Green tea contains polyphenol, such as flavonoids and catechins which function as antioxidant. The molecular structure of the flavanol compound is almost identical to that of catechins but differs in the oxidation state of the primary diphenylpropane nuclei. Flavanol is one of the many natural antioxidants present in food plants and has the ability to bind metals. Flavanol compound in tea is less called as a determinant of quality, but is known to have activity that can strengthen dnding capillary blood vessels and stimulate the collection of vitamin c. Flavanols in tea leaves include kaemferol compounds, quartetin, and mirisetin with 3-4% content of dry weight.

Catechins are also commonly referred to as polyphenol compounds because they have more than one phenol group. Catechin compounds are the most important compounds in tea leaves that serve as a healthy antioxidant body. The jam catechin compounds also play a role in determining the nature of tea products such as flavor, color and aroma. Catechin compounds in reactions with caffeine, proteins, peptides, copper ions and cyclodextrins form several complex compounds that are strongly associated with flavor and aroma. Catechins determine the color of seduhan, in the process of enzymatic oxidation (fermentation) some catechins decompose into theaflavin compounds that contribute to give the yellow color and thearubigin compounds that contribute to give a brownish red color.


Green tea has also some minerals that is good for your health. Mineral content in tea leaves about 4-5% of leaf dry weight. The types of minerals contained in the tea leaves are K, Na, Mg, Ca, F, Zn, Mn, Cu, and Se. Compared with other minerals, F is a mineral that has the highest content in tea leaves, which has an important function in maintaining and strengthening teeth to avoid caries.



Third, antioxidant in green tea may lower your risk of various typs of cancer. As we know, antioxidants have a protective effects against cancer. Green tea drinkers are significantly less likely to get cancer. For your information, do not put milk on your green tea for it can reduce the antioxidant in it.
